Naloxone at the Mall

Day 1156.

My hairdresser was visiting Canada.

Right there in a fancy mall was opioid overdose reversal training.

Meeting the privileged right where they are, educating them, empowering them, showing them:

How to identify an opioid overdose.

How to administer naloxone to reverse it.

What to do next.

How to store naloxone .

And if you had a Canadian medical card they gave you naloxone right there, for free.

It’s fucking brilliant.

It speaks so much to destigmatization.

It captures the curious who may be too reticent to seek training out.

It addresses the fact that the opioid emergency is not just a matter for skid row.

Picking up your Lululemons and overdose reversal training all in a one stop shop! It’s pure genius!

It’s the very essence of my vision for the lukelove project.

Spread the skill of opioid overdose revival till it is as widespread as CPR or Heimlich training, with the same kudos.

I don’t know, and it haunts me, if Marlon had this skill, had some naloxone at home, would my life be different?

I leave with beautiful hair, an inspired heart and the bit between my teeth.
